Reading Strategy Page!
Welcome
to our Reading Page! We have been very busy students who
love learning about how to become better readers. I am so
proud of how hard the children work each day and how anxious they
are to fill their baggies with books each night.

We use a
balanced literacy approach to reading and writing in our classroom.
A Balanced Literacy Framework is a comprehensive literacy program
that respects and addresses the needs of all learners in daily
literature-rich activities. The components of this program

A
balanced literacy approach is a flexible, research based framework
that views teachers as informed decision makers who use authentic
assessment to guide instruction. This framework utilizes a
variety of proven instructional strategies to facilitate the growth
of independent, proficient readers.

One of
the most valuable resources that we use in our classroom is our
leveled library. We have worked very hard at Hillcrest to
acquire many sets of books that allows us to teach all of the
students at their instructional reading level. Each week the
students are taught about reading in guided reading groups that are
based on their reading level.

Each of
the students has a book baggie that they take to and from school
each day. Inside, is a variety of books including guided
reading books, copied books, independently chosen books, library
books, and any other reading materials that the children choose to
read.

A
special thank you goes out to all of the wonderful parents who
take the time to read and listen to their very own reader every
night. Your patience and dedication to their reading
development is priceless! Thank you!
