Finding time to read is definitely not a problem in our room. During this block, I usually begin by reading aloud a fiction or nonfiction book to model fluency, expression, and think aloud comprehension strategies. After enjoying the story, book, or article, the students are given the opportunity to read anything they like. We have a large classroom library, and Thursdays are always a special day when the children check out new library books from our wonderful Hillcrest Library.

As the children work toward being independent readers, they spend a lot of time reading together and they also love sharing their new reading skills with others. I am so proud to share these wonderful reading moments with you!
